The Lewis Carroll classic, Alice in Wonderland, is over 150 years old and provided the inspiration for our photoshoot ‘Vintage meets Alice in Wonderland wedding’ which was featured in County Weddings ‘Your East Midlands Wedding’. So prepare to dive into our wedding version of a Mad Hatters Tea Party.
Our idea throughout was to do classic vintage with some Alice twists – so bring in the white rose headpiece dipped in red paint, exploding tea pots and out of this word hats – all set in the gorgeous wooded grounds of Sherwood Forest.
Vintage meets Alice in Wonderland wedding - “It’s no use going back to yesterday, …. I was a different person then”
Lewis Carroll
Every wedding tea party needs a stunning cake – so here is our Alice in Wonderland wedding centrepiece. Alice sits in mid-air on a large oversized toadstool complete with our March Hare. For our centrepiece set up we surrounded the cake with vintage books, Alice in Wonderland book table runner, and, glass cloches filled with cupcakes and the most amazing marshmallows.
“Begin at the beginning," the King said, very gravely, "and go on till you come to the end: then stop.”
Lewis Carroll
“How puzzling all these changes are! I'm never sure what I'm going to be, from one minute to another.”
Lewis Carroll
An exploding tea pot of cards was our main table centrepiece – complete with hanging tea cup and rose bud. Certainly something to catch the eye!
And to accompany the exploding centrepiece, gorgeous vintage tableware and glass ware. Small gold rimmed shot glasses accompanied our silver hares holding heart table place names. Red table linen folded into roses filled our vintage cups as the colours of red and gold. Our favourite pieces were the stunning Sadler vintage gold teapot with matching milk jug, and, the gold trimmed sherry glasses which were picked up from ebay for only 99p! We do love a good bargain!
The Chiavari Chairs were simply styled with red ribbon strung with playing cards – our queen of hearts bride sitting on her playing card marked chair!
“Have i gone mad? I’m afraid so, but let me tell you something, the best people usually are”
Lewis Carroll
Unfortunately our Mad Hatter couldn’t stay at our tea party, but he accidentally left his hat behind complete with playing cards and peacock feather!
“If you don’t know where you are going any road can take you there”
