If you’re dreaming of a Rutland wedding that feels joyful, relaxed and completely personal, this one will make you smile. T&L’s Rutland marquee wedding had it all – disco balls, incredible food, live music, sunshine on the water… and one very important four-legged ring bearer.
As an outdoor wedding expert and outdoor wedding planner, these are the kinds of days that remind me exactly why I do what I do.
The day began with guests gathering aboard the Rutland Belle for a beautiful boat journey across Rutland Water to the iconic Normanton Church. And what a day for it – blue skies, sunshine sparkling on the water, and that lovely hum of anticipation as everyone made their way across the lake.
The ceremony itself was full of warmth and personality. But the true show-stealer? (Bruce) Banner – their beloved dog – proudly taking on ring bearer duties like an absolute pro. He may or may not have stolen the spotlight (and a few hearts).
After the “I dos”, guests hopped back on board where they were welcomed with a prosecco drinks reception. There’s something rather special about clinking glasses while cruising back across the water – it sets the tone for a relaxed, celebratory day.
Back at Whitwell Point, their waterside outdoor wedding venue was ready and waiting. A beautiful sailcloth marquee from Sami Tipi, stood proudly overlooking the lake — elegant, light-filled and perfect for a Rutland marquee wedding. Styled with disco balls for days by Tara Knott Styled Events and flowers from Amanda Steele Flowers, it created that effortless indoor-outdoor flow I always encourage my couples to embrace.
Guests were welcomed with pies as canapés from one of my favourite wedding caterers, Thomas the Caterer. I loved this personal touch (it was hearty, fun and very them). There was also an acoustic music set complete with drums and a sax player.
The outdoor caravan bar was serving cocktails – his and hers, of course – and the atmosphere was exactly what T&L had hoped for. Relaxed. Joyful. Full of laughter.
This is what I always say about planning an outdoor wedding: it’s about the flow. Giving guests space to mingle, explore, grab a drink, enjoy the music, and soak up the setting. When it’s done well, it feels effortless – even though there’s plenty happening quietly behind the scenes.
As the sun dipped lower, the energy lifted. The evening was an absolute vibe. Live music from The White Keys filled the marquee, disco balls caught the light, and at one point there was even a full-on conga line weaving its way through the dancefloor.
And to finish? Sparklers by the water’s edge. The lake shimmering in the background. Pure magic.
These are the moments that make a Rutland wedding feel unforgettable – not just for the couple, but for every single guest there.
One of my favourite parts of being an outdoor wedding planner is the connections I build with my couples.
T&L and I bonded over our shared taste in music early on in the planning process. So imagine my surprise (and slight delight!) when they asked me for entrance song recommendations… and chose one I’d suggested.
But the moment that will always stay with me was their first dance. They chose a modern version of one of my late mum’s favourite songs. When I realised what was playing and looked around to see everyone dancing and smiling, I’ll admit – I had a little happy tear. Quietly, of course. Behind the scenes. Exactly where I belong – making wedding magic happen.
Weddings are about people, connection and emotion. That’s what makes them so special to be part of.
T&L chose our Great Outdoors package — our version of partial wedding planning, created specifically for couples planning relaxed outdoor celebrations.
It’s designed for couples who want to be hands-on and creative, but would love an experienced outdoor wedding expert by their side.
Here’s how I support my couples:
The goal? You feel completely stress-free. You soak up every moment. You don’t worry about logistics, generators, timings or whether the sparklers are ready. That’s my job.
If you’re considering a Rutland marquee wedding by the water, or you’re searching for an experienced outdoor wedding planner who understands the beauty (and practicalities) of outdoor celebrations, you’re in exactly the right place.
Outdoor weddings are magical – but they do need thoughtful planning to make them feel relaxed and effortless.
With the right support, they’re not just beautiful… they’re unforgettable.
And I’d love to help you create yours.
